This electronic decelerometer is a portable, self-contained, digital brake meter tester which is used to test and report on a vehicles brake efficiency. It is the modern electronic equivalent of a "tapley meter" and it is able to determine the overall braking efficiency of a vehicles braking system by simply measuring and recording the deceleration forces acting on the vehicle during a normal braking cycle.
This is a hand held unit and so, since it is completely mobile, it is ideal for fleet work and it can be used to test any type of vehicle. From motorcycles; when using the vosa approved motorcycle adaptor bracket, through to HGV’s, bus’, coaches or quarry vehicles – we have even sold these units to the aerospace industry as a decelerometer can be positioned literally anywhere in any vehicle!
Designed to be a self-compensating unit the brake meter indicates on its easy-to-read LED screen when it is positioned sufficiently level to perform the brake test and an in-built tolerance ensures that "level enough" is always easily achieved. When the unit has confirmed it is in a suitable position all further test operations can be performed using only the three buttons on the unit!
Test results, once captured in a simple operating cycle, can be viewed immediately on the brake meters display or printed out as a hard-copy using an optional portable printer. For fleet operators we recommend that a complete kit is bought with the infra-red printer as this will ensure that test results can be immediately attached to the vehicles service record in order to prevent cross contamination of results.
This decelerometer operates with 4 rechargeable Nickel Cadmium batteries which power-down after a period of inactivity to maximise battery life and since the Bowmonk is supplied with a 2 year calibration certificate and is also calibrated bi-yearly (most others are calibrated yearly) the overall running costs of this unit are significantly less than other available units considering the projected lifespan of this essential brake testing equipment.
Ultimately, Bowmonk brake check is the best value instrument available and the “industry standard”.
The Bowmonk BrakeCheck brake meter / decelerometer is ideal for bus and coach operators or as a standby for MoT bays. The standalone brake meter provides a full suite of data which is acquired in two simple road tests. There is a different version of this unit for HGV fleet operators - please see below.
This package not only contains the electronic Bowmonk brake tester but also an infra-red printer for immediate data download and test recording. This enables MoT garages to produce and submit a test result to the customer which can justify any remedial work that might might be required although the addition of the printer is not a DVSA / VOSA requirement for an MOT.
The Bowmonk TruckStop is specifically designed for HGV operators. It has the additional facility, above a standard unit, to test secondary braking function within the standard test sequence without the need for a seperate download / print. The unit is suitable for DVSA 'Duty of Care' checks although fleet operators should seriously consider purchasing our HGV kit which includes a printer to produce hard copy evidence of a regular testing regime.
When the DVSA approved motorcycle adapter is fitted to the Bowmonk BrakeCheck decelerometer the standard unit can also be used as a back up for mot braking testing or quick accurate diagnosis of a motorcycle braking system.
The Bowmonk TruckStop HGV kit offers the complete package for fleet operators. Supplied in a hard carry case and with the addition of an infra-red remote printer, fleet brakes can be quickly and accurately examined before the results are printed and attached to specific vehicle records before the possibility for cross contamination of results can occur.
The Bowmonk Bus & Coach kit offers the complete package for fleet operators. Supplied in a hard carry case and with the addition of an infra-red remote printer, fleet brakes can be quickly and accurately examined before the results are printed and attached to specific vehicle records before the possibility for cross contamination of results can occur.
An infra-red printer and hard carry case to suit any brake meter from the Bowmonk range.
