Class 4 MOT Bays

class_4_mot_bays

Class 4 MoT testing bay is used to test passenger cars, taxis, minibuses and ambulances up to 12 seats, motor caravans and dual purpose vehicles as well as goods vehicles not exceeding 3,000 kg Design Gross Weight (DGW). This is a majority of the vehicles using our roads so is the common class of bay to be found in garages across the country.

In order to test Class 4's you can utilise a vehicle lift or, if headroom is limited - an inspection pit. There are 3 basic types of test bay you can opt for;

  1. Standard Testing - The MOT tester is helped to complete the test using an assistant
  2. One Person Testing - The MOT tester is able to test the entire vehicle with no assistance
  3. Automated Testing - The MOT tester tests the vehicle on his own with no assistance. The vehicle's brake test is conducted at the presented weight and the test result is automatically driven

Based on the regulations as they currently written then a One Person Testing system is the most likely solution to opt for, but with our modular design means that garage owners get the option to minimise start-up costs and can, at the same time, allow the bay to change or grow in the future as the business develops or if regulation changes force it - Only a GETECH MOT test Bay offers this peace-of-mind.

Standard, or two-man, mot bays are available to suit lift, or more commonly, inspection pit installations. They are more common for pit based MoT bays as the necessary upgrade equipment to move to one person testing is less expensive for a pit based bay by comparison to a lift variant. Our blog contains articles on mot bay types that may assist you in understanding the available options. If you want to use an inspection pit arrangement then you can visit our dedicated pit bay package page by clicking here.

One Person Test Lane Package

Gain the advantage of single man testing by opting for a GETECH one person test lane (OPTL). A package that contains all the equipment required by DVSA for approval as a single man testing station and an assigned project manager to gain your approval quickly and efficiently.

One Person Test Lane packages can be supplied to suit both lift and pit type installations.

For new applications to the MOT scheme, our lift based package is the preferred choice of most garage owners where the available headroom will allow, and new applicants to the MOT scheme can also now apply for an OPTL rather than an ATL if they prefer.

Existing test stations may also upgrade to OPTL by including, as a minimum, a new lift with integrated play detection equipment - for specific costs for these upgrades please call 0844 800 9785.

A GETECH one person test lane is also capable of further upgrade to either a fully automated bay (ATL) or to a combined bay where class 2 motorcycle mot tests may also be conducted.
