MOT bays,
despite having minimum dimension requirements, are usually designed as a
bespoke solution dependant on the specific floor space that may be available
at the proposed site. This means that there are too many arrangements to simply show
on a single drawing.
There are
essentially 2 types of arrangement; recessed and surface mounted. The
recessed test lane offers the most compact arrangement possible and is ideal
for small premises however this does normally mean that a smaller number of tests can
be conducted at the same time, since almost the entire test bay will be
active as soon as the vehicle enters it. A surface mounted installation,
where achievable, increases the number of tests that can be conducted on a
single lane as each zone is separate.
Although
the VOSA dimensional specifications can be found online through the business
link website most individuals find it easier to work with a company such as
GETECH who specialise in this area. We can design your MOT bay that not only
will meet the required standard but also be specific to your individual
business requirements to ensure that the bay operation complements any
existing business interests.
We have
prepared a series of standard layout drawings showing various configurations
based on our standard mot packages. In the first instance this at least
gives you a basic indication of if a test lane can be installed to your
building although we still advice a site visit, which we conduct for free
upon application - just call 0844 800 9785 for more information on this
service.

Although these
linked drawings give you the basic indication of layout, any changes to the
standard equipment we would supply as part of our MOT packages, such as up-rating the lift platform length, are not covered within these
publications and further advice should therefore be sought. Professionally
prepared drawings will always be supplied as part of your bay package to
support your application to VOSA including those required for civil and
electrical groundwork and these are normally prepared on site by your local
GETECH representative.
A final point
to note that these drawings do not necessarily show the most compact bay
possible but are designed and drawn to ensure sensible civil dimensioning,
so if you don't quite meet the dimensional specification indicated on the
drawings then please call us on 0844 800 9785 for further advice.
