If the space permits inside your premises, even if you had initially only thought about Class 4 PLG's, then at least spending a little time considering a Class 4 & 7 MOT test bay package makes good sense.
The additional costs are not significant above those of a Class 4 bay and a Class 7 test normally achieves the maximum permissible test fee. Class 4 premises might, for example, may have to reduce test fees to attract footfall (dependant on local competition).
The main issues that are encountered when looking at the requirements for a Class 7 mot bay are within the dimensions; specifically the internal building headroom and the door opening sizes.
Here the initial critical dimensions to check for are the headroom over the lift measured as 4.8m from the lift platforms when they are fully lowered in the installation - this means therefore 5m headroom is required in a larger building where we might be able to install the lift on the existing workshop floor and 4.8m where the lift is to be recessed.
Building entrances need to be 3m wide x 3.2m high in instances where the MOT bay can be accommodated entirely within a building longer than 14m, but 3.5m wide where the bay runs through the door into the area outside of the entrance shutter. For pit based packages the door height defines the bay headroom: 3.2m clear is required in all areas.
Once the general space envelope has been established using the drawing downloads at the foot of this page, the next stage would then be to invite GETECH to undertake a site visit. This will give you the confidence to proceed with your project before any significant financial expenditure is outlayed. This visit also gives your project manager the chance to discuss and suggest where necessary solutions to other site specific solutions e.g. the reporting arrangements, viewing area provision, parking arrangements or even those related to planning permission.
Our complete bay packages are just that: a complete service from start to finish including if needed the civil and electrical provisioning as well as VT01 application paperwork and the first years calibration and service contract. Therefore at the end of this site visit we can start your application to DVSA to operate a test station.

Stage one of getting an MOT premises approved is the VT01 application...
After all, why would you commit to a building lease and the equipment and training costs until you're 100% certain of getting the DVSA to approve you?
Part of the VT01 application to get an MOT test station, requires planning permission or an exemption from your local council or a solicitor.
Our expertise may allow you to avoid the costs of such planning applications
